Wir! Project OpenSci

A Blockchain-based Marketplace for Scientific Publications
OpenSci represents a collaborative research venture funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) involving the University of Bremen, the University of Applied Sciences Mittweida, and tokenforge GmbH. Our mission is to transform the scientific publication landscape with a Blockchain-enabled preprint server and marketplace. This innovative platform integrates the benefits of open access preprint servers with the rigorous quality assessments associated with scientific publishers. Through our rewarding approach, we facilitate a seamless publication workflow, ensuring that the process of sharing scientific knowledge is both efficient and effective.

How To Join

As a
SCIENTIST

As a scientist, you can upload a paper to OpenSci as if you would do to a preprint server. You will receive instant rewards in the form of OpenSci's platform tokens that can be used to further mature your manuscript on the platform. With its publication, the article will receive a DOI. Simultaneously, a non-fungible token will be minted on a distributed ledger that certifies you and your institution as the owners of this work.

After the preprint article was submitted to OpenSci’s expert pools and revised, it will enter a hidden roaming vault that is exclusively visible to scientific journals. They can purchase a publishing license for your article, and publish it after your approval. You will directly participate in the revenues using SmartContracts. OpenSci will publish every reviewed and purchased article under green Open Access conditions.

As a
PUBLISHER

As a publisher, you will get exclusive access to OpenSci's roaming vault. This vault contains reviewed and proof-edited scientific articles - ready to publish. We will filter the relevant content for you, based on our state-of-the-art AI-driven algorithms. You can purchase publishing licenses of articles that fit into your journal. Revenues are paid in OpenSci's platform token and we will automatically distribute them to the authors as copyright holders. After you have published the finally edited article on your platform, we will release the premature, reviewed article to the public with a CC BY license.

Do you need reviewers for your journal? OpenSci will allow you to use its reviewer pool for external manuscripts against a platform fee. Reviewers on OpenSci will receive compensation. If you are unhappy with the reviews, you can submit the article to our roaming vault and make it available for other journals.

As a
COMMUNITY
Member

As a community member, you are an undergraduate, graduate, or early-stage PhD student that has not yet published scientific articles. Even though you are not mature enough to be part of OpenSci's expert pools, you can quickly rate articles on their preprint stage and help to establish our community ratings. As a native-Englisch speaker you can apply for OpenSci's editorial pool.

As a
REVIEWER

As a reviewer, you will be a scientist that already has a proven record of scientific publications. You will be part of OpenSci's reviewer pool, and our algorithm will ask for your expertise if authors from a similar field of research desire an in-depth evaluation of their content. You evaluate the scientific content before a journal choice.

There is no need to make a hard "accept" or "decline decision". Instead, you help to improve the scientific content together with the authors. An anonymous chat function will allow immediate correspondence between authors and reviewers to clarify open questions immediately. For your effort, you will receive rewards in the form OpenSci's platform tokens. They can used to improve your own submitted articles or benefit from our partnership programs. You can also simply cash them out.

As an
EDITOR

As an editor, you are a native English-speaking scientist willing to proofread the manuscripts of non-native English-speaking colleagues. Are you a highly motivated PhD-student that wants to earn some extra bucks once in a while? Here we go! Instant rewards are guaranteed.

Roadmap

Compensation and Open Access

We will start the development of the first fully functional prototype soon. Register now and don’t miss our latest updates through our newsletter!

Beta Testing

Our platform will be fully functional and you will be able to publish preprint articles and mint your first tokens. Invited community members and publishers will test the roaming vault.

Launch of the prototype

By the end of the 2-year funding period, we will launch a platform prototype. With a core functionality, we aim to launch a Web3-publication platform that enables every member of the scientific community to participate in a decentralized publishing revolution. Thereafter, feedback from early users is vital for a community-centered final version 1.0.

Web3 in Scientific Publishing

With a fully functional platform, scientists will finally be able to use  to publish preprint manuscripts, review them on our platform and offer them to scientific publishers in an efficient, linear workflow.  Content creators and reviewers will receive rewards for their effort! Together, we are working towards achieving the common goal of open science, fairness, and transparency in the scientific publishing process, enabled by DLT and AI.
